The United States, India and the Philippines are among the most common destinations for international VoIP calls. We do not publish a ranking of "cheapest countries", because rates and routes can change and depend on the package. Instead, this guide explains what to check so your calls to these countries connect smoothly.
1. Confirm that your destination is supported
Do not assume that every country, or every number type, is included in every package. Before you buy, ask the team whether landlines and mobiles in the country you call are supported on your package. You can message us from the contact page.
2. Dial in the correct format
| Country | Country code | Example of international format |
|---|---|---|
| United States | +1 | +1 415 555 0123 |
| India | +91 | +91 98765 43210 |
| Philippines | +63 | +63 917 123 4567 |
Drop any leading zero used for domestic calls, and save contacts with the plus sign and country code. Our guide on dialling international numbers has more examples.
3. Think about time zones
Calling at the wrong hour is a common reason for "failed" calls that were in fact never answered. Check the time at the destination before you call.
4. Expect some delay on long routes
The farther the call travels, the more delay it can have. A small delay is normal, and it is helpful to test with a short call first. To understand what is acceptable, read about latency, jitter and packet loss.
5. Prepare your connection
Use a stable Wi-Fi or mobile data connection and run through our pre-call test before an important call.
6. Choose a package that fits
Look at how many minutes you expect to use, then compare options on the packages page. If you call these countries regularly, estimate the monthly total using our package guide.
Next step: Tell us which country and number type you call, and we will confirm what to look for before you order.
Frequently asked questions
Are rates the same for landlines and mobiles?
Not necessarily. Rates and availability can differ by number type, so confirm before you order.
Can I call other countries too?
Possibly, depending on your package. Ask the team about the specific country.
Why did my call to a valid number fail?
Check the number format, your balance and the error message. See the call failed guide.
